Is Your Course Legit? Read this!

Saw this really amazing course you would like to study but not sure if the institution is legit? Below is a checklist that all institutions of higher learning is legally obliged to adhere to:

·    All institutions need to have a certificate which serves as proof that it is registered with the Department of Higher Education, Umalusi or the sector Education and Training Authority (SETA). Ask to see this certificate.

·     If in doubt, contact the Department of Higher Education call centre on 0800 872 222 or visit www.dhet.gov.za or www.umalusi.org.za. On www.saqa.org.za you will also find a list of accredited providers.

·         Make sure you understand the level of the qualification and if the course has been registered with the South African Qualifications Authority (Saqa). Every course has a National Qualifications Framework (NQF) identity number and it is your right to ask for it.

In January this year, Hawks shutdown 11 bogus colleges in Braamfontein alone. Fake institutions are a reality and the onus is on you as a prospective student to ensure your course is legit and will further and not harm your career.
