Whenever South African Tourism gets together with STA Travel and Baz Bus, you can always be sure that the results will be EPIC. Just ask the few lucky students from Rhodes University who were a part of the third leg of the #MyMzansiRoadTrip and got to explore certain parts of Mzansi in this fun-filled adventure.
After being told to pack their bags having won some activities on campus, the first stop was in Jeffrey’s Bay, one of the most popular holiday destinations in South Africa for locals and tourists! In Jeffrey’s Bay the travelers settled for a night at Island Vibe Backpacker, a sea circled Eden with a 270-degree beach view which was voted “Best Beach Experience in SA” in 2015. Dinner was served at their surf side bar and restaurant where they got to know other fellow travelers around their pool, foosball and beer pong table! A great Friday was had at Island Vibe.
As far as day time activities go, Jeffrey’s Bay is another top winner. There is a variety of activities to choose from provided by Island Vibe Backpackers: from stand up paddling when the weather is calm to a township tour, surfing lessons, sandboarding, horse-riding or a visit to a breathtaking local waterfall. Absolutely incredible!
After an action-packed day at Island Vibe backpackers it was inevitable for the next stop to be in Plettenberg Bay where the #MyMzansiRoadTrip squad were treated to a couple of nights at Amakaya Backpackers. Another Eastern Cape jewel, their upstairs Bar is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the mountain, lagoon and sea view before taking a short stroll to Main Street, the hub of Plett’s shops, restaurant and nightlife.
Plettenberg Bay is not shy with their incredible day activities and the Rhodes students were in for a treat as they rose early in the morning and begun with a 2-hour canyon trip which started at 8, followed by an abseiling activity until 13h00. Bloukrans Bridge, which houses the world’s highest bungee bridge (216m) was a highlight for many of the adrenaline junkies who got to take part in this crazy bungee jump. Then it was off to the unique and magical Wild Spirit backpackers for the night where the travelers got to enjoy the Sunday Soup Buffet for Dinner. As if this wasn’t already enough adventure for the travelers who were then treated to some explosive day activities at AfriCanyon River Adventures which was formed in order to share this multipart kloofing route.
Before their return to Rhodes University the students took a hike into Nature’s Valley, often described as The Jewel of The Garden Route and boasts the best of South Africa’s offerings: ancient forests, hills decorated with scented fynbos in flower, rambling sand dunes, golden beaches, sparkling rivers and a fresh water lagoon. This is also home to a lot of wild animals and birds and boasts one of the several excellent hiking trails available in the area. A definite treat for nature lovers!
A Massive S/O to all the #MyMzansiRoadTrip partners who made the 3rd leg of the trip absolutely incredible!
